Body hair is something that is unique for every individual. Some will have very dark, obvious body hair, whilst others will find theirs is fair and more discreet. The amount of body hair you experience can vary too, with some people having very little at all and others dealing with huge amounts. Unfortunately, excess body hair isn’t always considered an attractive trait, and this can cause those that have it to feel self-conscious or even embarrassed about their appearance.

For some people, unwanted body hair is a time-consuming and stressful problem to deal with. Razors and waxing can be effective but require regular treatment in order to sustain the results and many people suffering from excess body hair find that they need to spend time removing their unwanted body hair every day. Fortunately, there is another solution that is extremely effective and delivers many longer-lasting results – laser hair removal.

There are two different laser hair removal options that we use, these are ND:YAG and Sciton Forever Bare. All patients will be patch-tested ahead of any laser hair removal treatment to ensure that they are suitable candidates for the treatment.

ND:YAG

ND:YAG laser hair removal is a very effective and safe treatment that permanently reduces hair from both the face and body. Unlike some other types of laser hair removal, the ND:YAG laser works on all skin types, type I to type IV without causing any damage or discoloration. However, it doesn’t work on blonde, red or grey hair as there is no pigment within the color of the hair itself. Instead, the ND:YAG laser is recommended for patients who have darker, thicker hair since it detects these the best.

The ND:YAG laser works by penetrating deep into the layers of skin to reach the hair follicle itself – something which most IPL hair removal systems cannot achieve. Each laser hair removal session sees the follicle being heated up, destroying the hair at the very root and preventing it from growing back. Since all of our hairs don’t grow at exactly the same rate and maybe at a different place in the growth cycle, multiple sessions are needed to ensure that every hair is destroyed at the right stage. To achieve the best results, the sessions should be scheduled every four to six weeks which should ensure that the follicles are destroyed at every stage of the hair growth cycle.

Many people are concerned about discomfort during laser hair removal. Since every patient has a slightly different pain threshold, it is impossible to give a definitive answer to how painful laser hair removal might be. However, most patients may find it uncomfortable but certainly not unbearable.

Sciton Forever Bare BBL

Forever Bare BBL from Sciton is another popular choice for patients looking for permanent hair removal. It is widely considered to be one of the most comfortable forms of laser hair removal, which is achieved using lower energy pulses at an extremely high repetition rate. This makes it just as effective, but patients find it far more comfortable on their skin. The Forever Bare BBL machine also has a built-in cooling device, ensuring that your skin remains cool and comfortable during and after treatment.

Studies have shown that Forever Bare BBL can be safely used on all skin types up to type V without causing discoloration.

Like ND:YAG, Sciton’s Forever Bare BBL treatment has zero downtime, meaning that patients can resume their usual activities immediately following each session. Treatment time usually comes in at around 12-20 minutes depending on the area that is being targeted, and Forever Bare BBL can be used on the face, neck, chest, arm and even hands to remove unwanted body hair.
